Instrument Cluster Security Event Manager: Immutable Diagnostics & 6-Month Delivery

Tamper-proof immutable diagnostics
Delivered in 6 months
ISO 21434-aligned
Immutable Diagnostics & 6-Month Delivery

The Challenge

The client needed a Security Event Manager built from scratch - full design and implementation - running on a specific instrument-cluster ECU, delivered in a tight six months. It had to meet stringent automotive QA standards with full requirement-to-code traceability, and guarantee permanent, tamper-proof storage of diagnostic records a tester could never delete, with data integrity maintained over the long term.

What We Did

We ran full-cycle engineering - requirements, architecture, detailed design and Embedded C code - behind a QA toolchain for traceability and quality (unit tests with Cantata, static and dynamic analysis, and requirements tracing in IBM DOORS). Time-boxed sprints with weekly milestones kept risk under control, the embedded implementation was tuned for efficient logging and memory, and an immutable data-storage design keeps diagnostic records non-deletable and access-protected.

The Impact

An immutable audit trail that prevents tampering
Better traceability and quality - detailed logging speeds root-cause analysis, aligned with ISO 21434 principles
On-time delivery of a critical feature - first drop in 2 months, complete in 6 (built from scratch on the instrument-cluster ECU)
Compliance and legal readiness - permanent records support regulatory duties and reduce OEM risk

How We Delivered

Technology stack
Embedded C · MS Visual Studio · Green Hills · IBM Rhapsody · IBM DOORS · Cantata · Klocwork · Polyspace · Traveo II µC.
Team & approach

A 4-member team over 6 months - two cyber-security experts, one BSW developer and one QA engineer - using a layered security architecture (HSM → middleware) with verification and validation at each boundary and risk-driven test prioritisation by ASIL/severity.
