A privacy-focused consumer search startup.
The product had to work online and inside a browser extension, blocking ads and cross-site tracking while browsing, and bringing results from several search providers into one view. The catch: no modern framework runtime was available inside the extension.
We built three components - a homepage, an ad blocker and a tracker blocker - and rewrote the whole web app in native JavaScript and jQuery to meet the extension’s constraints. The homepage works as a single-page search aggregator, with weather, news, video and games on the start page.
A 6-member team - three frontend developers, one backend developer, a QA engineer and a project manager - with Europe-based engineering working alongside the client’s US and Australia teams. The three extension components were developed independently, a full rewrite met the browser-extension constraints, and online and offline behaviour came from one codebase.
